Is it really a third category of devices ? A Kindle killer or just an iPhone on steroids Huh Scratch Head

Personnally if I was a student I would sell my mother for one. I think that the main factor in the difference is that it can do real computing task. The integration of iWork is the clincher. Contrary to the usual one app-one task as on the iPhone it has a suite of "office" application that allow you to do "serious" work with it. The Phil Schiller demo during the launch says a lot about the fact that it's not just an e-book reader and more than a smart phone.

How about you people Huh

I like the device but I'm not putting on my list of things to buy. It wouldn't help me out at work at all and would end up being another device I have to carry around.

The fact that they have a 3G model is lame. There would be no reason for a 3G model if AT&T would allow tethering. At some point we  will all carry our internet connection in our pocket and land line broadband will be a thing of the past. I'm ready to give AT&T the boot once Apple gives me the option to.

Steve Jobs saying the device is unlocked for use with other providers is weak. The iPad uses a micro SIM card. The only provider that uses micro SIM is AT&T and Tmoble. The iPad isn't compatable with Tmoble's network. So your only choice here in the US is AT&T. Yet, the iPad is "unlocked"

I see a use for this device but it needs to be more of a computer and less of an iPhone. I think it will do a great job doing the things it was designed for.

It's a good device for the living room. I think i will get one for my mother.

Tmoble? T-mobile? T-mobile is using GSM/UMTS like AT&T. But I think every carrier would have the problems with the iphone. And Verizon? Well CDMA is not the solution. I think GSM/UMTS is a good way to go, but the network behind needs to be upgraded by AT&T.

This is the scary, yet exciting thing about the iPad:

I'm really looking forward to seeing what this does to the future of computing.

That article just drives home the point I have been making for years now. The operating system as we know it is dead. Welcome to what should be called the working environment. At some point we will see the Macintosh WE 1.

Look to the iPad and iPhone OS for what OS 11 will turn into.

Apple has been working toward this for years.
